This toolkit is designed to aid school administrators, athletic directors, nurses, coaches and others with a comprehensive concussion management plan. Because each individual school situation is unique, different parts of the plan can be adapted to the school but the basic concepts of an overall plan will be the same. Vermont Law requires an Action Plan with 4 components:
a) School must designate an individual who make the initial decision to remove a student athlete from play when it is suspected the athlete may have suffered a concussion;
b) School must outline the steps required before a student athlete can return to athletic or learning activity;
c) School must designate an individual who will make the final decision regarding the student’s return to athletic activity; and
d) School must designate the responsibility for informing parents/guardians if a student athlete sustained a concussion.
Best Practice RTL and RTP forms and tools – Best practice is one that uses the most up to date scientific evidence and recommendations for concussion care. Using these ensures that a concussed athlete gets the best care possible. - Return to learn/academics (RTL) program
